Ah, ritual. Doesn’t that sound like a dream? We get it — finding time to ritualize our lives can feel daunting. That’s why in true Shop Good fashion, we’re passing along some effortless rituals to take you from feeling “frazzled” to “free” in less than a few minutes a day!
1. THE MIGHTY MORNING
Morning is the perfect time to incorporate some small moments of ritual — & as many of us can attest, it can also be the time of day that feels the most rushed and stressed. *Hits the snooze button 3 more times*. What if we told you you didn’t have to become an entirely different person to find yourself some peace at the start of your day? It can be as easy as making your bed first thing in the morning ( ← highly recommended, btw!).
Yep — it’s true. And if you want to dive a little deeper…
The “how to”:
Right when you wake, before you reach for your phone, take 5 to 10 minutes to practice some focused breathing & set your intentions for the day. Practical tip: put your phone in the living room to charge and buy yourself an actual alarm clock for the bedside. This is to eliminate the temptation to reach for Instagram and instead help you to notice the sunlight coming through the window, the chill in the morning air, and allow you to breathe deeply without distraction.
What is an “intention”, you ask? Glad you did. An intention can be a personal mantra, a moment of gratitude, a goal for the day that is not task related but rather “being” centered (think: “I am valued, I am loved, I am created on purpose and for purpose”). We recommend stating these outloud to yourself, combined with your deep breathing for at least 5 minutes. Your day might not look any differently on the outside, but internally you will experience clearer focus, more positive thinking, and an overall sense of wellbeing. I don’t know about you, but that’s the kind of life-change I’m looking for!

2. LUNCHING ON MINDFULNESS
OK, back to the “eating-lunch-at-my-desk” epidemic — it’s time to kick the bad habit & carve out some time for refueling your body! If you’re anything like us, you love a good meal. And, lunch hour can be a great time to recharge for those last few hours of the work day.
Step away from all tasks and work related environments. Find a space that is peaceful for you — doesn’t have to be quiet, but it should at least help you slow down. Take a moment to lay out your meal; unpack and place in front of you so you can see everything. Now pause. Close your eyes, place one hand on your chest and one on your belly. Breath in, feeling the fullness of your lungs expanding. Take a second to be thankful for the food in front of you and this present moment to enjoy it.
And now: time to indulge in the moment. Dig in!
3. TACKLING THE AFTERNOON SLUMP
Did you know that we are only capable of 6 hours of uninterrupted, effective & efficient work in a single day? Anything more than that is likely to be less productive, yield more errors, and wreak havoc on your overall well being — especially if you are an “eat my lunch at my desk” kinda person. And trust me — working with a small business team, there is (literally) ALWAYS something that can be done or improved. We understand the work grind & eating on the go is second nature to all of us. But that doesnt mean its whats best for our minds, bodies, or souls. The thing is, you don’t have to schedule a yoga session in the middle of the day to implement a little self-care ritual (but, if you have the time, by all means — namaste!). All it takes is 15 minutes in the middle of the day to build in a ritual to re-center, destress, and manage potential future stress as it comes during the ever-building-busy season.
Close the computer, put the phone down, step away from the desk/counter/project (whatever it is!) and get outside. Open your eyes to the nature around you, stretch with your chest pressing towards the sky, feel the earth under your feet. Take a short walk around the block. Breath in the fresh air and maybe even some destressing essential oils.

4. THE NIGHTCAP
The evening can easily creep up on me — before I know it, dinner hour has officially passed me and the race to the pillow has commenced. Here is my super easy and effortless evening ritual that I have adopted into my (attempt at a) routine to help me unwind and drift off into dreamland.
My favorite thing to do before bed comes in two parts. The first shouldn’t come as a shock: my skincare routine! I love a good clean, fresh face to sleep on. I use the Gentle Cleanser by Botnia because it’s great for sensitive skin types and doesn’t over-strip the skin’s natural moisture barrier. BONUS: it takes off all my makeup without a fuss. After, I spritz the geranium + rose toner by Berlin Skin (again, promoting a sense of calm and relieving anxiety or tension), all over my face until my heart’s content. Lastly, I mix the Sandalwood Cream by Berlin Skin and the Replenishing Facial Oil by Botnia for added hydration as we head into the drier months of the year. Such a simple line up and my skin thanks me for it Every. Single. Night.
The second part to this evening ritual is warm, cozy, and comforting. Anyone else get down on a lovely cup of tea? Yes! Me, too. I love chamomile tea before bed. Its calming to the mind and body and helps me settle down from a long day. It doesn’t have to be chamomile tea, though.
