My health-conscious wife has been trying to get me off my daily 20oz+ of coffee for forever. Thanks to MudWtr...I finally have. The taste is amazing and while it's definitely more of a chai flavor than a coffee flavor, the warm earthiness of it satisfies that same craving. Now I find myself on my third can and I hardly drink coffee at all these days.
I still get teased sometimes because I still don't like coffee, and I'm over 50. Love the smell, want the caffeine, just ...don't like the taste. I'm a chai guy. Discovered Mud a few months ago and thought I'd try it: it is "masala chai" flavored after all!
After almost three months of daily or every-other-day consumption of Mud, and trying various hot-drink recipes, I must say, I'm a fan! Not sure whether it has affected my health or energy in any particular way, but sure hasn't hurt. The flavor and texture is ...unusual. More like a mocha mix than "chai," although it smells more like actual masala tea than like anything else. The texture didn't bother me even at first, I'm used to drinking thick stuff. This is almost like a chai soup. The dregs can be a little gritty, but I swirl a bit of water into the bottom of the cup and drink them too. Yum. And yes, it does indeed give you an energy lift. My housemate is especially sensitive to it, and has to be careful not to drink Mud after 2:00 pm if he wants to sleep by 10:00pm. No jitters though, and he can't tolerate strong coffee because of the jitters. So, a home run for Mud right there.
The one downside: the cost. I won't be able to subscribe long-term for that one reason. However, I must say, the excellent high-quality frother defrays the overall cost of the first two or three months, for sure. I would expect to pay $60 or more for a similar tool if I bought it separately. It only needs to be charged every couple of weeks or so (and remember, two of us are drinking Mud, almost every day). It's easy to clean, very high speed, but not overpowered—if you stir your Mud with the frother in the opposite direction that it's pulling the liquid, the extra friction slows the froth-ring down a little bit, and prevents the Mud Tornado that others have complained about. The Mud Folks include warnings and advice about the high-speed frother in the package, don't worry. Pulse it, or stir while it's frothing as I described, and you're good. (Don't fill your mug too close to the rim in any case, though)
Going along my health journey I realized my body was not agreeing with coffee. I still wanted some sort of caffeine and mostly just wanted something tasty to sip on on the morning. After I gave up coffee I added this to my morning routine and fell IN LOVE. I add a little hemp creamer or cashew milk and some raw honey and it tastes amazing. Not only does it taste amazing but it has all kinds of adaptogens and anti-inflammatory spices in it. It's also SO easy to make, takes no time at all! Love me my mudwtr <3
