Got a fancy new serum but not sure where to add it in? Curious if you should be using your eye cream day + night? And when should you even exfoliate?!
Using the optimal products at the right time (+ the right amount) can not only make a significant change in your skin, but can also save you from wasting any of that coveted cream, gel or serum!
Today's class takes us back to skincare basics with just 7 steps for a highly effective skincare routine. Notepads out!
01 Cleanse
Your first step to healthy skin! Have an extra 30 seconds? We love to double cleanse: first with an oil-based cleanser to break down and emulsify any makeup, followed by a water-based cleanser to get deeper into the pores and wash away any residual impurities. Forego the second cleanse if your skin leans on the more sensitive or dry side!
02 Tone
After cleansing your skin, reach for a spritz or a swipe of hydrating toner to bring your skin balance and a layer of moisture. Your toner should be calming and provide extra hydration for the skin to drink up. Plus, toners help remove excess sebum in the pores and helps your products penetrate deeper - aka, the perfect step apres-cleanse to prime skin for what's ahead.
03 Exfoliate
Exfoliation (when done properly) is essential for fresh, glowy skin. Reserve this step for your nighttime routine to support healthy turnover and avoid any photosensitivity. Remember, you don't need to over-do it: we recommend exfoliating once or twice a week only...and maybe less depending on your skin type! Ask an S/G Esthetician for guidance!
04 Serum
Serums are loaded with nutrients, hydrators and antioxidants, and really can take your skincare routine to the next level. Apply 1-2 pumps of your serum of choice to the face and decolletage post-toning or exfoliating for optimal results. Looking to brighten + combat signs of aging? Use Vitamin C. Need some extra hydration and replenishment? Opt for a serum with Hyaluronic Acid. Inflamed and a bit reactive? Calm your skin with Calendula.
05 Eye Cream
Depuff, hydrate, and support signs of aging with a hydrating eye cream! Eye creams tend to be lighter + thinner than regular facial moisturizers, so applying before your face cream is key for proper absorption. Use twice a day (AM + PM) for optimal results.
06 Moisturize
After your serum sinks in, apply your moisturizer or hydrating oil to lock in all.that.goodness. For dryer skin, opt for a thicker moisturizing cream or oil. For oilier skin, reach for a lighter, gel-like moisturizer.
07 SPF
Don’t head out the door without applying sunscreen. This is where you want to go above and beyond to protect your skin from harmful UVA + UVB rays. Sunscreen prevents signs of aging — like hyperpigmentation, fine lines + wrinkles. And don’t forget to reapply every 2 hours!
