This Giving Tuesday, we’re honored to spotlight a local organization creating meaningful, lasting impact in our community — and to invite you to join us in giving back.
Meet Project 1:1
Project 1:1 began in 2008 when Regina and James Gamboa shared leftover Thanksgiving soup with someone in need. That simple act of care evolved into regularly serving their unhoused neighbors — affectionately called their “homies.” Over the years, the Gamboas discovered the deeper joy and connection that comes from showing up for community.
When the COVID-19 pandemic heightened food insecurity across San Diego, Project 1:1 knew their work had to expand. In 2022, they launched The Magnolia Project, San Diego County’s first people’s choice pantry — where individuals can “shop” for free and select the foods that best support their households. This model restores dignity, reduces waste, and empowers families to choose what they bring home.
Beyond providing groceries, Project 1:1 also offers hands-on cooking classes to help families prepare nutritious meals and embrace intentional, informed cooking. Today, the organization primarily serves low-income Latino families in the South Bay — offering nourishment, education, and a genuinely warm community where volunteers and visitors alike feel supported.
Shop Good x Magnolia — Holiday Essentials Drive
As a brand rooted in accessible wellness, daily essentials matter deeply to us. This season, we’re joining Project 1:1 to support the “essentials” section of the Magnolia pantry — ensuring families have access not only to food but also to the body care essentials we all rely on.
What We’re Collecting
Throughout December, we’ll be accepting donations of personal care items, such as Shampoo, Conditioner, Body wash, Feminine Care Items, Deodorant, etc.
All items will be delivered directly to Magnolia’s shelves to support families throughout the holidays.
A Thank-You From Us
To show our appreciation for your generosity, your donation earns you 10% off your Shop Good purchase in-store (valid on the day of donation drop-off). Please bring in any eligible item(s) to either Shop Good location, drop them in our donation basket, and our team will apply a thank-you discount at checkout.
