So, you’ve solidified your NYE plans? Maybe?
With less than 48 hours until 2017 (really? really!), there’s still one big evening in your future before you step into Jan 1 with the gumption to bring on your best year yet. Whether you’re glamming up to dance under a disco ball or making decidedly low-key plans under the coziest blanket fathomable — chances are you’ll be staying up later than usual. Hey, if no one watches the ball drop, does 2017 even happen?!
But this up-and-coming late night following a rousing week of holiday festivities can be rough on our bod’s, and more specifically, on our skin! Yeah, we see you dark under-eye circles!
Lack of sufficient sleep can cause under-eye blood vessels to dilate, causing that darker tint peering back at you. And how about those heavy bags? When the body is acting under less sleep, fluids can also leak into the under-eye area causing puffiness and swelling.
So, how do we reconcile looking bright eyed, ready for the new year AND snag a memorable NYE under your belt??
The answer lies in MILK. We’re talking old-fashioned, straight-from-the-udder whole milk. Got it?
Though traditional dairy is often coined as an inflammatory food group, when placed on the skin (and under the eyes!) its amino acids, lactic acids and vitamin A act as an anti-inflammatory agent by shrinking the tissue. Bonus: the cooling sensation of placing the milk on your eyes works to refresh, invigorate and disguise the aftermath from a season of indulgence!
Got a leftover carton of milk from recreating your family’s treasured egg nog recipe? Perfect. Pour cold milk into a small bowl and saturate two cotton pads. Place them over closed eyes for 15 minutes for de-puffing and re-brightening! Re-saturate new cotton pads as needed.
Let’s leave all baggage in 2016 behind, even the under-eye variety.
