Oh, summer. Just when we thought we finally had our facial acne under control, the hot summer months surprise us with acne in other places… like our chest + back. It’s almost like those uninvited blemishes KNOW we’ll be showing more skin. We’re here to share our top tips to treat and prevent these unwanted friends on common areas, like our back, chest + butt!

How to prevent + treat body acne:

1. Back
Your back has numerous sebaceous glands that produce sebum… just like your face! ‘Bacne’ can oftentimes arise due to an accumulation of dead skin cells and oil within the pores of your skin. Increased sweating and tight clothing can then be the perfect mix for these breakouts to pop up!

Prevent: Use Ursa Major’s Face Wipes + Botnia’s Toner after you work out to lightly exfoliate and rid the area of any bacteria that may have formed due to sweating.

Treat: Massage Linne’s Activate Body Wash in a few times a week or when you have an active breakout to improve circulation, absorb impurities, and really target blemishes.

2. Chest
If you have acne prone skin, there’s a chance that you may deal with acne on your chest, too. And there’s an acne commonality on all areas of the body when it comes to sweat + friction via clothing. When moving through your skin routine, don’t forget your chest! The products you’re using on your face can help benefit your chest as well.

Prevent: Josh Rosebrook’s Daily Acid Toner will exfoliate away any dead skin buildup, improving the skin’s texture and stopping blemishes in their tracks.

Treat: Use Palermo’s Grapefruit + Juniper soap bar when a breakout arises, as it will draw out any excess oil and impurities while fighting bacteria. *both can be used on the face –a win-win!

3. Butt
Typically, breakouts on your butt aren’t technically acne, but more so bumps that are caused due to inflammation surrounding the hair follicles known as folliculitis. Note that tight clothes, sitting
or constant rubbing in the area can all be reasons why you’re experiencing this.

Prevent: Weekly exfoliation with Botnia’s Luminous Body Scrub will help remove dead build up around the hair follicle itself, while also moisturizing the skin.

Treat: Tata Harper’s Clarifying Cleanser will be your sulfate-free wash to kick bacteria to the curb and to say buh-bye to any pesky inflammation down there.
