high_res

Here on All the Details, we delve deep into superfoods and nutritional powerhouses that light up our bodies from the inside-out. Leaving no stone unturned, we’ll help you lean in to what keeps us glowy and vivacious. Now, time to dish-

If you’re an avid acai-bowl seeker on Instagram, you probably have seen many a plate topped with teeny yellow kernels, which contrast fabulously against that striking violet. Though aesthetically pleasing to be sure, those sunshine-y bits are in fact bee pollen and extremely beneficial to our health. We really can’t thank bees enough; between pollination of our favorite flowers and 80% of all green things, production of honey and now this, it’s high time bees get the buzz they deserve (yeah, we went there).

What is Bee Pollen?

All pollen is the male seed of the flower, and bee pollen is the food of a young bee and made up of 40% protein. It is made by the bees walking all over the flower and the dried pellets form from the plant nectar and enzymes off of the little guy’s hairy legs. It is said that bee pollen is one of the most completely nourishing foods on the planet, by containing all nutrients required by humans– talk about a high performing snack! Its nutritional profile includes extremely high levels of rutin, which help build capillaries and better blood, alongside vitamins D, E, K, H, folic acid, sulfur, magnesium , copper, calcium, and 22 amino acids. That’s not even its full resume: bee pollen is said to contain 59 trace elements, 18 vitamins and 25 minerals. WHOA, baby! Stack it against any multivitamin, and bee pollen will stand as a nutrient-dense s-t-a-r.

What does all that good-good do for ME?

Regularly consuming bee pollen helps reduce cravings and regulate weight, improve longevity and energy, regulate the intestines and digestion, combat seasonal allergies, stimulate ovarian function and create cancer-fighting immune cells in the body.
